It turns out that for every real influencer, there’s several zillion billion twillion ripoffs or in other words….
In this year alone, its estimated that fake influencer follower fraud (say that 3 times fast!) cost companies $1.3 billion dollars!
has a rather interesting infographic about it all. Some of the data shared is that:
Up to 20% of mid-level influencers between 50-100K are likely fake
38% of influencers artificially inflate their comment numbers
and more
Depressing, it really is.
However, we can take that depression and create a 1 2 3 cheatsheet about finding REAL influencers like so:
Step 1.) Find places where influencers lurk
Step 2.) Discover how to identify a *real* influencer
Step 3.) See if they can work for you!

has a coolio discussion about that…. it demystifies how a huge chunk of new emails addresses were added to various lists…. and what caused people to offer their email address in the first place.
To wit:
“…It means that your success isn’t in the number of emails captured, but the amount of awareness, positive brand sentiment and ultimately revenue that those emails produce. This business kept that concept in mind from the outset and throughout, in two crucial ways.
Firstly, they allowed their prizing to serve not just as a qualifier, but as database segmentation. By offering a stay at one of 3 hotels, and allowing the entrants to pick which one they wanted, they organised their entrants into lists of areas where they lived or traveled frequently. This enabled them to serve separate, customized email follow ups to each group – sequences advising prospects of the best places to eat, sleep and play in the area.

I really like the fact they offered unique coupon offer codes that are targeted to the hotel the individuals entered. Very good planning indeed.

Ah yes!
It’s Monday!
My apologies for missing yesterday’s newsletter.
One could say…
Things came to a peak. And clarity ensued.
But wow… it sure did take a lot indeed. By the time it was over… I basically decided Sunday was MY day to rest, come what may.
I ended up writing a big huge essay about it all over at:
It’s funny, you know?
The whole art of tolerance seems to have gone by the wayside of being right FIRST and ONLY.
It’s very bewildering to me.
However, I did take a stand about it, and that was a Good Thing to do. I also discovered that adding chilipepper flakes to coffee is quite the taste adventure! 🙂
I’ve also decided to change some things wrt the way I alert peoples regarding IM – you might have noticed the style and structure of my emails have changed.
It’s going to take some time to get it down pat, but…
Change is definitely in the wind.
