It is Sunday!  And I am SO SO SO SO SO SO…. behind.  🙁

This week has been character-building to the extreme.

Elsewhere in LingLand….

The husband and I are doing lots more gentle exercise, and yesterday we found a great park to slowly hobble around with the moose.   So that was good!

And!  I emailed one of my fav authors, James Alexander Thom (who wrote a lot about the Colonial era and focused also about the Native Americans’ experience ).  I also received a response!   Fangirl, go me!  🙂

About that, I wrote:

“Happiness is receiving a response to an earlier email to one of my favorite authors from the 1980s or so…. and realizing that yep – the colonial American History that was taught to folks of my generation is incredibly white-washed.

History is written by the victors, but the memories of the grandparents and more from the Native American tribes (to this day) that showcase that other pesky, extremely lousy other side of ‘Manifest Destiny’.
I consider myself blessed that I am still open-minded enough (read those books… 40? years ago) to recognize the above and think… yep, while colonization was responsible for creating the USA of today, the colonists sure did a horrific number on the Native Americans.
Caught between a rock and a hard place (two superior fire-power entities like American colonists and the British who wanted to secure other Native-American areas)…
It was an impossible position to be in. No matter who they aligned themselves with, the opposing forces would always see them as someone to kill and take their lands.
Every culture has good and bad… and you cannot tar an entire group of people with one broad characteristic (much to the dismay of 2 of my kids who had the misfortune of not only having a white mother but also a Taiwanese father who views himself first and foremost as an American, as do I. A traitor to his culture, he is (according to 1 kid)).
Be that as it may. I support a number of causes – getting rid of (child abuse | domestic violence for all genders | pet abuse | police | individual minority members etc (as I do NOT trust donating to foundations – I believe the *vast* majority goes to political thingees/marketing efforts, so I always make sure to see about helping a few people where I am assured my support goes directly to *them*)).
I highly suggest that you do the same. Support those causes you believe in, but if possible, support the *people* *in* those causes so you can be assured your money is well spent.
Carry on..”

Support peoples more than ideology.  Ideology is run by folks with their own personal agenda.
