🌠 Chatting with the Most Important Person in your Life – You

🌠 Chatting with the Most Important Person in your Life – You

Imagine the following.

You have fears in your mind regarding… something.

It paralyzes you.

Prevents you from taking action.

Even worse, it can affect your own feelings about your own self-worth as well.

Horrible, aye?

Well, yesterday we chatted a wee bit about providing a ‘being’ for your fears (in my case, Fluffy, the Wonder-Fear Dragon) that has utterly lousy social skills… so the only way this ‘being’ can protect you at all costs is to prevent you from taking any sort of chance/risk/etc.

So you might be asking yourself, how do you defeat your fear dragon?

The answer might surprise you.

You don’t defeat her. You make friends with her instead and try to *understand* just what the fear that paralyzes you… truly is all about.

And how do you do this?

In your mind, brew up your fav beverage or pour 2 Pepsis (one for you, one for your fear dragon), add a mental donut or two, put your feet up and invite your fear IN to share in the repast.

Ask Fluffy. What is she really afraid about? What is the worst thing that can happen?

Of course, as this is all happening in your mind, you’re really taking the required, methodical mindful steps of seeing why you really ARE afraid of something.

So you might come up with, “I will look foolish if I xyz.”

That’s a valid fear indeed. You can then go to Google and look up:

how can i stop feeling like people think i’m foolish

www.google.com/search?q=how+can+i+stop+feeling+like+people+think+i%27m+foolish

See what’s returned. Can you learn from any of the insights provided? For example, “What Is Imposter Syndrome” might catch your eye (because your fear might be so deep-seated you can’t even give it a name, but you can recognize it when someone else talks about it).

Thoughts Are Just Thoughts: How to Stop Worshiping Your Anxious Mind at

And so on, and so on.

The benefit from doing this kind of back and forth with your fears in your mind is enormous. Curious creatures that humans are, often we like ‘labeling’ things, and when we just feel fear, it’s hugely uncomfortable (and keeps you stagnating in place).

But when you can work thru the exercise above, you can make friends with your fears not only because you understand them… but because you also now have at your fingertips ways of letting those fears go.

Your takeaway?

Never slay your dragons.

Befriend them instead! And then learn to use the power such an action provides. After all, that’s what life is all about. Regrouping… and moving forward once more.

Enjoy!
