Did you know that FB announced their new name that oversees all of their businesses is called ‘Meta’?
Kinda like Google is owned by Alphabet.
But, I will admit… there’s a weeee bit ‘o difference here.
I personally think this is beyond brilliant of FB. Consider the current definition:
“Merriam-Webster dictionary defines the word “meta” as follows: “Showing or suggesting an explicit awareness of itself or oneself as a member of its category.” It can also mean “concerning or providing information about members of its own category”, as well as being a prefix that means “after” or “beyond”.”
So. Hmmmm. Explicit awareness. Self-awareness? Transforming the Internet into one great big ‘adventure’ that requires submersing yourself into a virtual world like one accessed by Oculus?
You know, that VR gaming concept that is OWNED by Facebook already?
I mean excuse me, Meta.
Let’s take this one step further!
Back when IBM had ‘second life’, they had an in-game currency called ‘lindins’ – these could be exchanged for *real* currency ‘way back when.
And nowadays? Consider a VR experience backed by an in-house coinage that oh, just by the way, might also make an appearance in real world crypto.
That could then get exchanged into real-world dollars.
Interesting to think of all of this, right?
In this sense, FB is trying to associate itself *with* the already-existing MetaVerse… so who knows, in the future?
The MetaVerse might be the MetaFace.
Something upon which to ponder, indeed.
Enjoy!
