The Art of Pushbuttons?

The Art of Pushbuttons?

Something on which I’ve been thinking….

What is some knowledge you can share that cuts thru the hype and froth of your industry?

For Internet Marketing, it’s basically that virtually every adorablez push-button solution has a number of “gotchas” you need to *get* before you can even enter that hallowed shadowy room containing said bright shiny push buttons, let alone actually slam ’em down.

Such thingees might fall along the lines of yep, having your own email list sure is a Good Thing indeed, and yep, to have *that*, you should have your own autoresponder, and to have *that*, you need to internalize that IM, like everything truly valuable, should be treated like a *business* and *not* a Bright Shiny Object (BSO).

<clutches pearls>

For those who have known me online since I returned back in 2011… you might have noticed that stuff I’ve shared has lessened to the point that I now just *share* (and hardly ever now do my usual ‘hattip to ….’ etc.) instead of trying to *engage* and thank people.

This is not a positive thingee. I’ve really withdrawn into myself.

It used to be, I’d happily mail my list …. a bit more than …. once a day. My attitude was, ok, folks will buy BSOs *anyways* (those are often an emotional purchase instead of a business purchase), so they should buy them from me, and when they’re finally ready to grow, they’ll know who to turn to.

Given now the past 982 years of lockdown, I’m seeing more and more of people *still* wanting to buy those BSOs and ‘waaaay less of “how to” PDF products (you know, those things that provide, Step 1, Step 2, etc.etc.etc.etc.). It’s almost as if folks want to Believe the Dream instead of actually Embracing the Reality (serious business ==> serious actions that you and only you can take ownership of).

So how do you choose to make money in an industry where a (percentage unknown) number of customers buy simply for the retail high they get when purchasing (a good comparison would be folks who reeeaaaalllly want to lose weight and buy gym memberships, Torso Tigers, Ab Rollers, Ab Pails, ShakeOHands and the like)…. and you still want to be proud of who you see looking back at you in the mirror at night?

I’m still working this out.

So what’s something that I can share? That’s easy for the IM industry – it’s that 95% of the answers you want can be found via a simple Google search.

And that future-proofing your income (ie, eCom has been booming during the pandemic – folks might not be able to actually visit a (gasp!) real life open store, but they can purchase online) is a Wise Thing indeed.

How?

Well, that involves generally breaking past your comfort boundaries and proactively giving yourself permission to learn…

Fall on your face

Leap up

Misjudge the distance

Fall into the Abys

Grab onto a a handy-dandy branch

Execute a twirly handspringy thingee

Vault back to standing on the edge

Trip the other way….

… But because of your new-found knowledge (Abysses can be avoided if you mindfully take the time necessary to *see* what’s in front of your face), you restart the whole process again, secure in the knowledge that you won’t make *that* particular mistake again….

There’s a whole slew of others! í¹‚

In closing, do not let the reality of your current customer base dictate how you choose to approach your career.

Instead, consider accepting how your current customer base really is….

… and then provide them with the means to level up when *they* are ready.

Not you.

Them. The people you want to positively impact. You cannot make a difference if people refuse to hear your words, but if you meet them on their own playing ground, they’ll eventually start to realize that hey…

This person is worth listening to.

Enjoy!
