Good morning!
And yes indeed, I can completely verify that it *is* morning and, as a matter of fact, it's *been* morning now since 3am, which is when coffee started to grace my inner circuitry.
You are going to really like today's post! And….
Hang on.
No.
Not *really like*.
Never…"really just, ummm, like".
You're going to love it.
Delight in it!
Esteem it.
Cherish it!
Groove on it.
Hang on, must refer to Thesaurus for a sec….pause pause pause…okay I'm back.
Marvel and revere it!
Heck, you're going to pet it and call it Fluffy!
In other words, methinks you're going to find this article valuable indeed. So let's get to it!
See, it all started at (wait for it) 3am or so this morning, when I was happily doing me blog commenting rounds.
And I came across:
by the illustrious @kbloemendaal. It's a tremendous post, do read it!
I was immediately captivated by the following riveting video.
In a nutshell, the quarterback does something sooooo unexpected, he scores the touchdown with a style and grace that simply takes your breath away.
See for yourself:
Was that magnificent or what?
Think about it!
By merely doing the *unexpected*, ie, sauntering past the other football players until he was in the clear and then zooming down the field (and yes, I know that's called "downfield!" I'm a marching band mom you see), he was able to achieve the ultimate goal for his team (an unbeatable touchdown).
Major wootness, indeed.
Let's now apply that to your blog/site customers/readers now, shall we?
There are three things you must consider when deciding you will not only knock your readers/customers' socks off, you'll compel them to invest in sock manufacturer stock like this.
And they're this.
Step 1.) Ask yourself, what do your customers/readers NEVER see on other blogs/sites?
It's easier than you'd think to ferret this information out!
Simply visit other blogs or sites in your niche.
Think of the goodie that would make your visit awesomely memorable.
Maybe it would be a free discount on a product.
Maybe it would be that product for free!
Maybe it would be the way the blog *doesn't* make you feel (ie, you want to feel enlightened. Amused. Happy. Energized).
Maybe it would be an easy way to find the Twitter ID of the poster so it's simple for you to tweet about it.
See what I mean?
If you're marketing in your particular niche (she said, being more profound than Wonder Woman extolling the fact that her bullet-proof bracelets actually repel bullets), you probably can put on your customer's hat as well, right?
Well?
Well then, think *like* a customer.
What would make the visit memorable?
Once you have that down, move to:
Step 2.) Ask yourself, how can *you* provide that on *your* site?
So now you know what's missing on other sites.
How can you provide what's missing elsewhere… on *your* site?
Hmmm?
Some easy ways to do this is simply google for them!
For example, let's say that you realize that having your Twitter ID on each post is a Good Thing (this (add your Twitter ID to all your posts), btw,(add your Twitter ID to all your posts) is (add your Twitter ID to all your posts) called (add your Twitter ID to all your posts) subliminal (add your Twitter ID to all your posts) hinting).
So! Search for:
How to add Twitter to all my posts
You might have to look thru the responses, but you might come up with:
What if you hate popups?
Search for
how to grow your list without optins
and you might uncover:
There's great ideas in that post, btw – do read it!
See what I mean?
And once you know just how to do what's never been done on blogs in your niche before, dive gracefully into:
Step 3.) Make it so!
Implement what you desire.
Wasn't that easy?
And oh yes, I also do walk the walk I talk as well.
What do I do that you never see (or hardly ever see) on other Internet marketing blogs?
So far, it's:
1.) The cute little peelio thingee on the upper right.
It alerts customers to the benefits of my site without bashing them over the head or demanding an optin.
2.) The unannounced bonuses/goodies I offer all buyers of my products
When people buy my products, they're opted into my personal customer care followup. Over the following weeks, I give them at least 2 unexpected paid products/bonuses/ideas….for free.
3.) Unexpected discounts as part of my thank you for newsletter optins
I got this idea from James over at Men With Pens. His newsletter thank you is sooo incredible….it immediately sets the tone for a very positive experience indeed (and also offers a discount to popular products as well!).
So I tweaked it for my own site too…and it's been great.
In preparation of my relaunch, mind you, I'm also pulling together other startling goodies as well…that hasn't been seen elsewhere on the Internet.
But that's a post for another time.
So! Let me now recap.
You can make your customers love you by doing the unexpected and following these three simple steps:
- Step 1.) Ask yourself, what do your customers/readers NEVER see on other blogs/sites?
- Step 2.) Ask yourself, how can *you* provide that on *your* site?
- Step 3.) Make it so!
And that's all there is to it.
Sure, it will take time and patience and perhaps 9,382 more grey hairs while you do "Make it so", but hey.
The results will definitely make it worthwhile indeed!
Do you have any suggestions for doing the unexpected? If so, please do share in the comments below – I'd love to learn!
Grow strong,
Barbara Ling
