I personally think the number one reason for engaging subject lines is to increase open rates! After all, no matter HOW stellar your email/content is, it’s worth less than an skinny ant applying to mow the entire Superbowl astroturf field if nobody sees it!
Here are my Best Area Practices for compelling subject lines.
1.) If you’re emailing a list that is no-nonsense, include the niche in the subject line. For example, if I’m mailing a general buyers list, I include”FACEBOOK” to highlight this is something they would WANT to open. I’ve tried catchy humorous titles instead…and so far, having the NICHE in the subject line has more clickthrus and buys.
2.) If you’re mailing a targeted list that knows what to expect, including a visually engaging, punchy subject line works grand for *opens*. But opens are just the first step – you want to *convert* as well! Don’t waste that open; continue with content that leads your reader to do what you want (click on link, sign up for webinar, etc.)
