When telling people to F*CK off is a GOOD Thing Indeed

So….been taken for granted yet today?

I sure have…and finally, it's time to say, enough is ENOUGH.

'Course, I'll be the first one to admit – that's what I say mentally.  In real life, I choose to swallow my anger and outrage as it's the best for my family.

But hopefully, when the above happens to YOU, you will not be shackled by my constraints.  Hence this post.

First off, though, read this.

On Playing the Friend Card

A magnificently wondrous post by Debng, it truly was a godsend to read and realize that…

Jeepers!  I'm not alone!

Sigh.

I don't know.

Maybe it's my age?

Maybe I live in an era where common courtesy is looked at askance?  Totally ignored?

Maybe it's the culture?

Or perhaps I live in an era where it's okay to be a two-faced selfish user who is polite and friendly to my face and who trashes me when I'm not around?

Maybe it's just plain selfishness?

Or even (get this!) I live in an era where folks love it when you look out for them but when it comes time to say, "Hey! Are you okay?"…they're "too busy" and just don't have the time?

Who knows?

More importantly…who cares?

And that statement, gentle reader, sums it up completely.

Earlier this week I wrote a nifty post about valuing your own work and charging what you're worth.  I'd like to now follow up on that and emphasize – your worth goes 'way beyond what you provide to customers.

It's also your value as a terrific friend and marvelous human being.

And alas, quite often….we really do drop the ball regarding that.

The specifics of my particular situation are not important, but the essence certainly is.  I pride myself on always going the extra 4,938 miles for folks whom I value.  But if those folks just take it for granted (there's Barbara again, looking out for us, yawn), then…

I'm simply dishonoring myself by my actions.

And as my kids depend upon me for a good role model, that is just plain unacceptable.   So I'm doing some major mental pruning of the people whom I look out for…and rather brutally slashing them from my perceptions.

And what's the best way to do that?

So glad you asked!  Follow these steps below to help you regain your positive outlook in life.

Step 1.)  Remove the people from your networks online.

Doesn't matter if it's Twitter or Facebook or Ning or what have you.  You cannot control how they act…but you can control how you choose to respond.  And if they treat you like sh*t, you proactively smash them out of your networks.

Step 2.)  Don't want to be that extreme? Start a NEW Facebook or SN page

I'm still on the fence about this one, but hey, it might happen.

I have 4 or 5 main groups within my Facebook network…and I'm debating about removing one of them.

But I don't want to make a big production of it….so I'm toying with creating a new FB page, inviting my true friends and family there…and letting my current one just die a quiet death.

Given the apathy many people show, I doubt I'll be much missed from that group anyways.

Step 3.)  Accept the following as a gospel truth.

You are PROUD of the YOU who is YOU.

Just because some twits are stupid enough not to value you or what you've given does not WHATSOEVER detract from the goodness in your heart….nor from the purity of your actions.

Remember…the only power someone has over you (generally, of course) is that which you give them.  IE, if you start to value THEIR words, they have the weapons with which to hurt you horribly.

But if you train yourself to recognize the fact they're like a lower form of polio or Swine Flu (ie, they exist but you don't want to interact at ALL with them), you regain your own precious power.

And that's valuable beyond belief.

So, in closing…don't waste your goodness on the cockroaches of society.  You're worth far more than that…any day of the week.

Remember that.

Enjoy,

Barbara Ling
