Where was I? Ah yes, Friday!

Finally I can reveal it.

Over the past weekend, my close-to-100 year old mother in law finally passed away.

On Monday, I packed the family into the MooseMobile and we drove down to North Carolina.

Arrived there on Tuesday, funeral was on Wednesday, and we got back home yesterday.

Here’s the words of wisdom I shared on FB:

“…25 years now I have been traveling to North Carolina to visit the in-laws. And now that has come to an end.

I am grateful that my mother in law accepted me as a worthy spouse to my husband (I am Caucasian, husband’s parents are old-school Chinese). My MIL was an extremely strong and courageous woman back when women weren’t exactly viewed as equals to men… but she did the very very best she could to raise both my husband and his siblings to be true to themselves.

Thus, I apologize for my relative disappearance online these past few days – I tend to be quiet about such things until they’re over.

Your takeaway?

Life is short, peoples. If your parents are still alive, and if you have any unresolved issues with them…

… take the time to rebuild bridges.

Remember, no matter how much negative emotions you might have from times past…

… chances are, you’re viewing issues in a far different light then the other person.

Misunderstandings can totally torch a family relationship until its too late to heal.

I am grateful that never occured in my family…. but know other close friends have unresolved pain and angst.

Death takes away the ability to bring peace.

Don’t lose the time you have left….”

I won’t share pictures of the funeral in this post (you can see them on my FB wall). It was an open casket funeral (which is something I just can’t handle). But yep – it was very character-building indeed.

Don’t forget yesterdays:

Where was I? Ah yes, Monday!

Yesterday was such a weird yet great day.

My youngest had a wonderful time at the stagecrew party! I heard from another mom that bunches of kids were gathered around the kid – they just loved interacting!

Now, for most kids, this is a normal thing… but for my youngest (who, you might remember, was horribly bullied in school and had MASSIVE self confidence issues) this is beyond amazing.

And yesterday, the husband and I took him to hang out with his friends at the mall (another super first!). I went to see Moana and discovered that yep, Pokemon is still going strong:

I think the above is a thingee for Pokemon Sun and Moon.

The movie itself? OMG it parallels my eldest so well! I was crying bunches during it.

One thing I adored (as a marketer!) was the song “It’s SHINY! OH SO SHINY!”. Massive giggles there. 🙂

Came home super late (okay 5pm) and started my official Sunday rest at 5:30pm, when at 6:30pm another kid asked if I’d drive him to Bertuccis (the robotics club alas, didn’t win, but they chose to celebrate the fact they tried. LOVE that attitude!).

Saw the middle school play….. ’twas a thingee about Edgar Allen Poe.

Now, I’m not exactly one for horror and stuff – my taste is ‘way more Big Hero 6. But! My youngest was in stagecrew, and took a bow at curtain call…. and OMG OMGOMGOMGOMGOMG….

The kid’s self confidence is blooming like a meadow full of sunflowers!

SO happy to watch.

And today… well, today is ideally gym (my credit card had to be updated so I was bonked with a late fee – visited the PlanetFitness location and got that removed) and taking it easy.

But not good news did happen – I found my mother-in-law had finally passed away. 🙁 She was closer to 100 than 90, and passed away in her sleep… it truly was the best way for her to move on. Will be working on logistics for funeral as well.
