Very somber note here in the States. Yesterday, a cop killed a black individual in a car….
… today in Dallas, 5 police officers were killed and 4 wounded in a stand-off.
I have zero answers. Here’s what I wrote on FB:
“…The vast majority of cops I know are great folk.
The vast majority of black folk I know are great folk.
The vast majority of people I know… are great folk.
After Ferguson, Honorable Daughter II educated me about inner city race relations (she was the only one of my kids who knew how to approach someone like me). That was the first time I realized that yep, a concept like ‘bad cops’ can exist. I’m naive. It happens.
I also believe that vast majority of cops are truly good people…. and the few bad apples can cause sparks that enable Dallas to happen.
I also believe that in today’s climate, it is sheer insanity for *anyone* to want to be a cop, given the media.
And yet, when trouble does happen, who are the first responders?
What would this country look like without law enforcement?
I have no answers. Law enforcement is heavily politicized – pressure to write tickets, bring in money, etc.etc.etc., at the expense of what really matters (fighting crime). Horrible.
It wouldn’t surprise me in the least if these incidents give Trump the final barking audience he needs to actually win this election.
I have no idea where this will end.”
Utterly utterly horrible. 🙁
Elsewhere in Lingland, things are going well – my eldest came back (yay!) and we’re having a family lunch today. The past week is definitely catching up to me… looking forward to taking a break *finally*.
