2. Leverage business cards
When you meet people face to face for any reason, ask for their business card. Offer yours. Set a glass bowl on the counter in your store or the reception desk in your office, and ask visitors to drop their cards in it. Offer some incentive to do so — a free product or service, gift card, etc. Use your own business cards to further drum up emails; add an offer on the back of your card that encourages people to sign up to receive your emails.
I set my business cards on the table of the booth I was manning, mind you, but the concept is the same.

It’s Tuesday and suffice it to say….
Monday was insane.
I have zero clue as to how I managed it but I literally did not fall asleep until 6:30am… *Monday*.
And that meant I was up for, what, 36 hours?
Thing is…
Bricks.
Ever notice how some people have a figurative brick for a head?
A brick for compassions….
A brick for kindness…..
It inspired me to write:
….So I’ve spent several hours today revisiting *all* of my roots (read: Wayback machine).
From the stuff I had created back in 1998…
… to how I started following Marlon Sanders a few years later…
… to when I left IM because I had broken the Google Code in 2004…
… to when I lost 50+ pounds, wrote the Safe and Smart Internet Weight Loss edge in 2008 or so…
… to when I returned to IM in 2011.
Want to know some things I realized?
It’s mainly this:
the species of people called ‘newbies’ havent really changed. Sure, there are newbies who will never progress past the point of wishing to, say, build a list (aka the Dreamers)…
… but there’s ALSO those newbies who are not afraid to buck the trend and put themselves out there.
Thing is, while those newbies might put themselves out there, that does NOT mean they will actually go thru all of the steps required to build an affiliate network, create a product, do a Fiverr Gig…. because they don’t know how to give themselves permission to *start*.
So, they’ll keep buying all the BSOs out there for the retail high they get and tell themselves, when they ARE finally ready… they will be able to use those materials they just bought!
And that is perfectly ok. No matter how much veteran marketers like myself might want to *make* people take action… that has to come from within themselves.
Not me.
But here’s the important thing.
At some time, newbies *will* start their journey, *will* create products, *will* build their list…
… and I’ll bet they will also remember the seasoned marketers who make fun of their BSO purchases as well.
You know, I was a beginner at one time (she said, stating the obvious)… and I still remember the 3 marketers back in 2011 who denigrated my abilities.
Sometimes these marketers now ask me to promote their products . They’ve forgotten our past history together.
And that amuses me.
Your takeaway?
Kindness is one of the best things you can give to the Universe.
And also, people like me have a *long* memory.
So the next time you find yourself tempted to laugh at beginners products or folks who keep buying without implementing, ask yourself.
Are your actions helping those who could really benefit from learning from you… or are they scaring off people who simply are looking for the confidence to begin?
Think about it.

See, I’ve been noticing some of my colleagues have been dissing newbies who like bright shiny objects.
Sometimes, people buy simply to encourage themselves for the future. They might NOW lack the self-confidence to go out and make things happen…
… so they buy to prepare FOR that future.
Now, their “start’ date is based solely on THEIR belief in themselves… and sometimes it takes months and months and years and years for them to give themselves permission to raise their hand….
… and say, NOW. *Now* is the time for me to shine!
And they buy bright shiny objects in the meanwhile to keep their spirits up.
I find nothing wrong with that. But apparently some of my colleagues DO… and they spend their time on FB laughing about it.
That attitude, dear reader, is worthy of a brick on a naked toe.
Who the hell is *anyone* to make fun of folks whose time-schedules are different than others?
