Where was I? Ah yes, Saturday!
Remember how I had mentioned yesterday that I got up at 2:30am to take my kid to the airport?
Success!
The kid has been returned to college.
Woot!
Followed by me raising cane at the hair stylist!
Followed by my ankle falling off. 🙁
Ah well, these things happen. I returned to bed, elevated the ankle and worked on my laptop instead.
Woke up this morning and started off my routine. Part of said routine is congratulating the daily W+ and JVzoo Product Winners (every day, both vendor platforms choose a product to highlight. And as I am not my customer, I always congratulate those who win… after all, securing these awards almost always means you’ve mastered the art of product creation, affiliate marketing and the like. It’s not lightly achieved ).
Well, this morning a colleague challenged me… and asked:
“Barb do you only congratulate those who put out reputable and useful products, or do you just blindly congratulate all winners? Do you actually investigate/review all products?”
A fair question, so I responded:
“I congratulate all winners. I have internalized that I am NOT my customer so I make no judgment calls.“
Because, you know, I am NOT you.
And if something appeals to you that doesn’t appeal to me, that’s perfectly fine.
The response was:
“Yeah but I think as a product promoter you cannot be so neutral as to lead people in the wrong direction. No offense but I find that to be a bit of a cop out. Don’t you think those who don’t know any better would take your congratulations as a stamp of approval for the products themselves?”
One of the great things about when people judge you…
You can choose NOT to accept their judgement.
So my response was:
“Leading them in the wrong direction would be saying: “I think you should buy this product because of these reasons.”
*Nowhere do you see me saying that*.
I simply congratulate the winners. That’s all. Kindly do not imply things I have not said.
And regarding:
“Don’t you think those who don’t know any better would take your congratulations as a stamp of approval for the products themselves?”
Nope, I don’t. I believe customers are capable of making their own decisions and they buy for their own reasons. If they are unhappy, they can ask for a refund.”
As you can tell, I’m one of those marketers who DOES NOT judge what makes people buy.
You want to buy something – go for it! So many people buy for retail therapy (aka it makes them feel good about themselves, but they will never even crack open the PDF)… and that is perfectly fine.
Making money online comes when you are *ready* to give yourself permission to do so.
I cannot make you ready.
NOBODY except yourself….
… can make you ready!
But until you ARE ready…
Retail therapy works just fine.
If I have bought/reviewed/tried a product, I will definitely highlight that in my comments.
Your takeaway?
NEVER feel like you have to accept judgments with which you do not agree!

Much more productive day! Some sad news though – my eldest had to leave for college early (snow storm is approaching so wah). 🙁 It was so grand to have the kid for 2 weeks! But college does call… and the second kid goes on an airplane today at 6am as well. That’s most likely why I’m writing this at 5:30pm yesterday….

Alright so yesterday was a “See Barbara Recover” day. Had a good chat with my youngest after the kid came back from school and resolved lots of issues, but wow.

Had perhaps 10+ hours of sleep (yay!) and woke up with gratitude, though….
