… and then have a confirmation code sent to your phone?
You know why you shouldn’t do that?
Well then! Read this:
“…For a long time, security experts have warned that text messages are vulnerable to hijacking — and this morning, they showed what it looks like in practice. A demonstration video posted by Positive Technologies (and first reported by Forbes) shows how easy it is to hack into a bitcoin wallet by intercepting text messages in transit.
The group targeted a Coinbase account that was registered to a Gmail account also protected by two-factor. By exploiting known flaws in the cell network, the group was able to intercept all text messages sent to the number for a set period of time. That was enough to reset the password to the Gmail account and then take control of the Coinbase wallet. All the group needed was the name, surname and phone number of the targeted Bitcoin user. These were security researchers rather than criminals, so they didn’t actually steal anyone’s bitcoin, although that would have been an easy step to take….”

And you know why that is so near and dear to my heart?
It’s because I think that happened to me.
I had signed up to a crypto site….
… used SMS to authenticate myself…
… and after the 2nd message was received, I didn’t get ANY more.
This… was a bit florbytoeing to me.
What then followed was 8 email exchanges to the site and I eventually had to send:
* Selfie with my number written on a crumpled piece of paper
* Front side of my ID
* Back side of my ID
* favorite brand of coffee (okay making that one up)
But yep… scary while that was happening.
I now use Google Authenticator over at:

It’s your data….. so be VERY careful how you protect yourself.

I mean, you simply have to witness the Tide Pod Challenge (eat laundry detergent pods? Really? And even college students have gone to the hospital for such inanities)….
It’s been said that happens because teens lack frontal lobe development (aka, that part of the brain that tells people, excuse, you’re courting death with your latest desire, or lets them erupt into full-scale tantrums if they don’t get their way).
So whenever my kids act out, I simply think about the future brain development that MUST arrive some year.
It helps.

Right Achilles heel started acting up too, so was on bedrest for much of the afternoon.

Wheeee! Still though, yesterday was good – got up at 5am to take kid to airport (kid is growing *so* well and is now back at school)…
… and did some nifty copy on my latest (all about Google Dreams). Thing is though….
Potato chips.
You know how once you have one potato chip, you generally have 2?
That’s how I like approaching my copy these days….
I want to write stories that once someone has devoured the first sentence, they can’t wait to feast on the second.
And the third!
It’s an art, however. I’ve been getting some good suggestions but yep…. methinks growing that ability is a very wise thing to do!
Because wisdom…. makes the world go ’round. Especially when dealing with mooses at 1:45am. Remember, The Kingly Moose is still alive and kicking… but oh, sooo old. It takes him now forever to navigate up the stairs… so I make certain that he takes his time in his hobbling.
Oh! And yesterday … the latest episode of Star Trek Discovery premiered… and OMG, what a brilliant, gut-punch of an episode.

Well. Did you know one’s SMS code can go missing?
Yep… really frustrating. See, I had signed up to one of the Crypto trading places, decided to verify by phone….
… and received my SMS code a grand total of 2 times.
2.times.
Not good at all!
What followed was an exciting adventure of 9 exchanged emails where I had to provide:
- Selfie of me holding up a crumpled paper that had written on it, the date and the request to reset my cell phone
- Front side of ID
- Back side of ID
- Wheeeee side of ID!
Still, though, I finally managed TO get signed up so… yay!
Must educate myself more before I start trading, however.
You know, it reminded me also of being careful.
How many critical thingees do you have on your cell phone that IF your phone goes bye bye, you’d lose tomorrow?
Hmmmmm?
Its something to think about. Instead of using SMS now, I now use Google Authenticator.
And that means several of my accounts are tied directly to my phone!
Don’t like that either, ah well.
And the kid!
Friday night, he got a tooth filled… which promptly fell out at 10pm.
So yesterday as well, I drove all around eternity, looking for an emergency dentist.
Okay I didn’t do that, I googled ’emergency dentist my town’.
But the first sounds ‘way more dramatic, right? 🙂
I’ll be taking the kid to the airport and you know something?
Both the kid and I have learned how to communicate ‘way better with each other.
Yes, I know – parents rules the world etc.etc.etc., but its SO much easier to communicate if BOTH parties are willing to change.
Challenge with my kid is he is ‘way smarter than I will ever be…. and he used to like bashing people over the head with his intellect.
But that’s now in the past so yay.
Today is airport and then back for more sales copy writing… wheee!
