Well actually gnope…. it’s still Monday at around 8:30pm.

Well. Character-building is one way I’d describe it. Good news is yay, I did get to the gym!
All together now: Wooooot!
Could-be-better-news is the rest of the day. 🙂 But so long as we wake up again… it’s all good, the future is always in motion.
One of the things I did realize that I really do need to pass down to my kids is:
Whenever you’re talking to someone you value, always keep in mind that virtually 100% of the time… they have good intentions towards you.
Communications styles might make that difficult to realize every now and then. ‘matter of fact, I’m reminded of that…. daily …. with one of my kids. Sigh. It’s something that can be hugely frustrating but we did end up having a convo after the massive miscommunications involved. It’s so bizarre – we just don’t *get* each other. Not because we don’t want to, but because we just are *that much* different.
Still, though, got thru it so yay.
(and if you’re wondering, yes, right now I have on infinite repeat my go-to music:

… I *so* need.

Decent day yesterday. I did have an interesting convo regarding ‘being right’:

Ever get an insane desire to convert folks who do not share your own most-cherished beliefs?
I mean, after all, you *know* your ideas are right!
And it’s your duty to the galaxies far, wide, above and more to let others know quite how dumb they are for not *yet* seeing the light you are so graciously offering to provide.
Right?
And after *finally* internalizing the wisdom you possess, your audience is virtually guaranteed to prostrate themselves before your magnificence, thanking you in earnest for all the dazzling truths you have shared!
‘course, there MIGHT be one teeny tiny itsy bitsy squidgem widgem problem with all of the above….
You try converting people with all of the style and grace…
… of a rabid aquatic moose who bumped face-first into the only drunk porcupine in the forest during quill-shedding-season…
… thus limiting your conversational ability to something slightly only barely above “Hulk SMASH!”
Uh huh.
Not wise.
See, true, you might actually *be* right.
For example, behold this profound truths that are undeniable because I say so!

Even if *you* believe your ideas are right, nobody will want to listen to you because you make them feel stupid (and probably 3487378 other reasons, but let’s start with that one).
Like Maya Angelou said once said:
“I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will NEVER forget how you made them *feel*.”
And when you make people feel stupid, you’ve basically drop-kicked your face into the goalposts of life.
Seriously.

The art of effective communications begins with *you*.
NOT your listeners.
But you. And when you choose to make others feel stupid or inferior or what have you….
You’ve just lost any chance you might have possessed to actually create *understanding*.
Because when 2 sides listen to each other…. chances are, understanding can grow.

One things I’ve learned….
Sometimes, you *really* *really* *really* need to let people find their way in their own time.
Why?
Because if you show the answer when they’re not intellectually/emotionally/etc ready to accept it, it will go in one ear, out the other, and scamper down the highway, laughing hysterically at your extremely ineffective attempts at communication.
But…. I suppose that is a bit of what life REALLY is. Some things, you cannot teach.
You have to let them learn from the inside.
I still do have the Dr. Strange Listen on Repeat going on in the background. Another grand soundtrack you might enjoy is:
