Ever hear the phrase – “What you don’t know can’t hurt you?”
Truly there are times that is applicable.
For example, if you’re an Internet marketer, NOT knowing that exiting your starship while in orbit around Boreth, minus any extra breathing gear, *will* 100% kill you …
… that lack of knowledge won’t hurt you in the least (Unless you’re a devout follower of canon from the 1960s and make this dramatic statement in virtually *any* gatekeeping Star Trek group for matters not critical to this essay. But I digress).
But what if you don’t know something that could *help* you?
And what if that knowledge could be gained as easily as reading a blog post?
And even more interesting…
… what if that knowledge opened the wings of your mind regarding a rather popular social media resource, one that has over a billion zillion trillion (okay, 1+ billion) users?
I’m talking, of course, about Facebook, and in this particular case, the spine-tingling excitement of reaching potential customers via Facebook ads via (drumrolll please!)
“Said Aforementioned Well Aged Secret Sauce!”
I was reminded of this an hour or so ago, when one of my kids started chatting with me about Minecraft. FB, knowing what every living animated cell in this universe does (generally 3 seconds before said cells do it), immediatly showed me an ad about ID Tech Camp that featured (you guessed it) Minecraft!
Not missing a millisecond, I immediately fired up Hypersnap to grab a screenshot, only to discover that yet again, my computer’s beloved G drive gave up the ghost for the 3512th time since this morning (very slight exaggeration).
Not missing a Barry Manilow beat, I then pounced on Google to search it up and encountered:

written by our very own Ben Adkins.
Now, this rather excellent analysis mentioned some key facts in the video entitled:
“How ID Tech Uses Minecraft to Attract Tech Savvy Kids for Summer Camp”
The point I really zeroed in on was:
“How targeting a wide age range can work in certain cases”
Their explanation makes a huge amount of sense as well:
“…One thing that really stood out to us is the fact that the age range went up to 60. Then we realized that they were targeting grandparents of these tech-savvy kids. Grandparents are on Facebook and always looking for ways to spoil their grandchildren or tell their children what they need to be buying for their grandchildren.
We believe this is more of an exploratory ad to see what kind of people are actually clicking on their stuff. But, what you are not seeing in this targeting, is that they are targeting people who have kids. The reason you are not going to see this show up is because this is something that is highly sensitive for parents. There are certain targeting things that will never show up. And most of the time, what we have learned, is that Facebook doesn’t put it in front of you because it would raise some things that may be a problem for them….”
(‘course, in *my* family, grandparents are defined by ages 80+, but as I’ve been assured *many* times… my family (and me, for that matter) is not quite the usual. 
)

It’s Thursday and my wrongness continues!
I spent ‘way too much time dwelling on it because OH YES!
That’s what happened.
Yesterday I was in my office (which is next to the deck) and the husband needed me.
Unfortunately, I’ve programmed myself to speed over whenever my name is called by a family member…
And let me tell you.
That is HIGHLY unwise if you have a fused ankle!
So for most of yesterday I was on bedrest:
Behold the lump on my left ankle.
Yep… yesterday was NOT fun.
And then I realized my take on “blaming others:” like so:
“…The smartest thing you can do after you realize you’ve been taken for a fool is to:
a.) Give yourself the time required, not to mourn, which is generally my words of advice, but figuratively beat yourself up that you were *that dumb* in the first place to fall for it
b.) Take ownership of your actions that while they were meant for the best of intentions, were used for the worst of purposes (and then proceed directly BACK to step a.) for as long as required
c.) Pass along that which you have learned to your family and friends
d.) And THEN let it go. Never forget it, mind you, so you will not be tempted to be an idjut again in the future,…”

Ever wish you knew the closely guarded secret of maximizing your video marketing return?
I mean, isn’t it wonderful to have people buy simply based upon your video?
But here’s the thing – sometimes (perhaps 99% of the time) people lack the time and/or patience to watch an entire video presentation.
And that’s maddening, right? You spend all this time crafting the perfect video message right down to the set design, actors used (or even powerpoint templates cobbled together via Windows MovieMaker), shave off seconds so the entire video is under a minute and a half…
… and unless it’s intriguing to the point of Hollywood Epic trailers, people *still* find their attention fluttering away to the next shiny object that seductively coos its way.
Chances are, if you’ve done any sort of video marketing, creation, or editing, you can imagine just how frustrating the above can be.
But! Once you *have* mastered the Incredible Lightness of Making Sweeet Videos that enhance your bottom line… you’ll discover your income hitches a ride on Superman’s cape (aka goes in the UP direction) instead of donning on neon-blue lead socks (aka traveling in the DOWN direction).
Such a Promised Land, aye?

If not, you’ll love what Google just revealed:

and in a nutshell:
“The tool uses machine learning to take relevant moments from longer videos and automatically convert them into the shorter ad units.”
In other words, this Bumper Machine takes < 90 second videos and extracts 6 second “bumper ads” (Vine anyone?).
Interestingly enough, “bumper ads” were first introduced on YouTube back in 2016. Almost a lifetime ago, if you measure it in Internet years.
Such a topic could lend itself to a digital product cheatsheet as well. You could break it down into:
Step 1.) Brush Up On The Best Area Practices regarding Video Marketing
Step 2.) Review some of the BEST Bumper ads to get inspiration

I have what is politely known as a non-existent short-term memory at times.
And there was a discussion going on, I said my take…
… and then 6 hours later, while at the pool, I realized I was wrong. 🙁
So I posted a public apology over at
I was told the public apology wasn’t needed.
However, that’s one of my traits.
I pride myself on my integrity… and if I am wrong, I will publicly state that and apologize.
It’s such a waste of emotional energy however to actually go thru the actions *prior* (it took me 30 minutes to write my initial response yesterday)…
And that was time and energy I could have put into buy buttons instead.
Seriously.
Think about that for a moment.
That time spent arguing on FB… could have been dedicated to something *important*.
Painful to realize, aye?

Have you ever been crushed under a desire to see on your Facebook page someone doing a 180 turn and declaring, thanks to your logic, I now see the light! My opinions have been changed!
Yeah, me neither.
You know, when it comes right down to it….
… all arguments really result in on FB is folks see what your true colors are.
Which is great if you don’t mind turning off a significant portion of the population.
I confess – there are VERY few things I will be vocal about online.
A woman’s right to choose – that is one.
Any abuse to anyone – parents, kids, animals, men, women, transgender, gay – that’s another.
But see, here’s the thing.
Some of my customers might become non-customers if they see my beliefs do NOT align with theirs.
It all comes down to a hugely personal decision, I believe.
Some “it’s okay to abuse the PERSON XYZ type” ideas go 180 degrees against not only my beliefs…
… but also members of my family.
So I am entirely ok with losing these types of customers; I’m in the lucky position that my sales can afford this.
But what if yours… cannot?
It’s something to think on.
Are you comfortable accepting dollars from people who have different views than yours?
If so, staying *quiet* on said views is highly recommended!
And to be honest, at the end of the day for the most part…
… bringing in the money required to support your family, most likely, is the main thing of importance in your life.
I’ll never forget the day, long long around, around the time of the Pyramids construction, I believe, when I worked at Bell Labs.
That day, our supervisor called us together and said that basically we have one of two choices.
Accept something with intrinsically disagree with…
… or go down with the ship.
To a person, we elected to go down the with ship, and to this day, we have never regretted it.
But again… we could afford to do that.
So what’s your takeaway, really?
It’s that if there is something you truly believe in your heart and soul…
Earn enough to support your family that you have the luxury of saying:
“No. I do NOT want your money.”
And how do you get *there*?

Elsewhere in Lingland, it was a very quiet day here indeed. The husband visited one of our Honorary Lings (these are college-aged kids whom we look out for) and they had a most grand time indeed.
I stayed home this time, took care of the mooses and kept on writing my beloved Instagram thingees.
Plus…
I noticed another thing online during these past few days.
Recently I simply decided that my mindspace is too valuable to allow jerks or tweebleheads to get me down… and started to proactively block people online.
That ended up feeling so good that I started blocking others!
And others!
Note – I don’t block people with whom I disagree… but I DO block people who are incapable of having normal civilized conversations.
Works like magic it does!
And the Beak of Doom oversaw some activities:
Yes, the Beak of Doom likes checking up on me to ensure I keep those home fires burning (aka keep on product creating).
A very good Beak indeed!
