Where was I?
Ah yes, Wednesday!
I am fast getting to the point where I just look at getting up above ground as a superb accomplishment.
Know what I mean? Visited the pain doc yesterday, yay, woke up with elbow better but shoulder falling off.
Honestly, it’s ridiculous and I just don’t have time for this silliness.
So I medded up and now I’m back to work, yay!
But no gym yesterday and I am sure feeling it. Back to that today I hope!
And! I wrote this:
“=-=-= Beat career depression by realizing this one easy step =-=-=
You know….
… with an opening like that, I just *know* my kids are going to say,
“MOM! You cannot beat depression with just one easy step! You’re talking like a marketer!”
Which I suppose…. is true. Smile So let me amend the title like so:
“Embrace depression by realizing this one easy step!”
Now, why on earth would you want to embrace it?
Simple!
Because if you embrace something… you choose NOT to fight against it.
It *is*.
It *exists*.
It’s *now*…. part of your life.
And that is okay because…. once you accept it’s part of your life, you can give yourself permission to *lessening it* in your life.
Now, there are no sure-fire ways to “beat” depression or “cure” depression but after you embrace the fact that depression is right now part of your life….
… you can take a step back and address the issue.
Make no mistake about the following – addressing it is HUGELY important because depression, left unchecked, can really hose your toenails and destroy your career & (not to mention) life. Instead of being grateful to your guardian angels that you’re above ground, you waste your precious days moping about, feeling more pathetic than a toddler whose last ring-pop was stolen by a wayward moose.
Well, the above describes my feeling of depression, your mileage may vary. Smile
So what should you do AFTER you embraced you are feeling more depressed than a grape that was stomped on by a renegade elephant (and let out a little wine)?
I am no expert in such things, but here’s what I do. Perhaps it might be helpful for you as well!
Step 1.) Honor your emotions. I know, I know… seeing everyone ELSE succeeding all over the place is rather…. ickified. And while you’re depressed, it’s natural to feel envy/pity/etc.etc.etc.
Normally, you can easily brush that off but we’re not talking normal right now. We’re talking… being good to yourself. We’re talking, being gentle with yourself.
AND we’re talking, treat yourself as you would treat others you cared about deeply.
That means making it OK that you’re feeling these human em0tions.
Next:
Step 2.) Plus 1 yourself. Meaning…. If you cannot muster up the strength to do something really good for yourself… do something *small*. Put on your favorite music. Light your fav aromatherapy candles. Indulge in reading your favorite books.
In other words, dont agonize about what you deserve/dont deserve/how horrible your life is/why doesn’t an asteroid obliterate your town etc.
Start *small*. Get through the next minute. And then the next minute after that.
Then (and this is the toughest part of it all)
Step 3.) Forgive yourself.
Not forgive yourself for having depression.
Forgive yourself for not being *who* you *think* you should be.
Not who you SHOULD be, mind you (that’s a topic for a whole ‘nother post)….
But forgive yourself for falling short of YOUR expectations.
See… so often, we’re just plain too hard on ourselves and that contributes hugely to any depression that is lurking outside, ready to sink its fangs into your self-esteem, self-confidence and self-worth.
It’s horribly sad, as well….
… because when our control spirals out of mere normalcy and into sheer bat-bleep insanity, all it mainly hurts….
… is US.
Or to be more precise….
You.
Depression is hell enough without you setting yourself aflame via the magnifying glass of your emotionally-wrought delusions.
And make no mistake about it – magnified feelings of unworthiness ARE delusions.
Because you are a tremendously magnificent individual… and the delusions that crush you are just that.
*Delusions*.
Shadows without substance.
Shadows replete with fear and pain.
Shadows that, left unchecked, can end up destroying you.
And you deserve far more than that.
I do not care if you feel like you’re the epitome of The Worlds Biggest Non-Fat Loser…. you have grand qualities that deserve to shine….
… if only you can free yourself from your entrepreneurial depression.
And how to do THAT?
Everyone’s journey is different. But one thing that might help is if you recognize the following:
Humans by nature… are flawed.
You are flawed.
The people you love… are flawed.
And you know something?
That’s *okay*.
Never hold yourself to unrealistic standards.
One of the best ways to start healing from depression is to realize….
Even when people/life/job/etc screws up, it is NOT done intentionally to hurt you.
It’s simply because people being who they are….
Well, we all mess up.
And proactively communicating about that without taking offense…
… well, that’s a grand way to start.

Ah yes, Monday!
You might notice this morning newsletter is a bit….
Late.
However, it IS out…
And that’s a good thing, given the amount of sheer character-buildingness I went through yesterday.
Totally shattered and just now, pulling myself together.
In a nutshell, really difficult day. Lots of serious painful talks with the husband that was all good, mind you, because communications were excellent, but it involved being super honest and both of us admitting our flaws, where we could do better and the like.
Not to make much of a big deal about it, but wow – I can now totally appreciate why some people simply just want to give up and end it all sometimes. Didn’t get to that point myself, but I sure saw how people get there. Looking into the abyss is NOT FUN….
…. but possibly necessary to move forward.
Today is another day, I woke up late, and yesterday is just now a memory.
One I wont forget, mind you, because it’s one that taught me bunches which I suppose I’m meant to use in the future.
Took the family out as well (yay!) and then yesterday…..
Just spent the entire afternoon taking care of myself. Well, no, not true, I did do some work for the next Dennis and Barb launch (this Friday!):

Well, now I can reveal it.
On Friday, the husband and I took Honorable Son 1 up to Vermont to meet up with his soon to be college colleagues.
And you know those storms that hit the east coast?
We drove thru them!
Total sheer utter insanity.
But, we managed to get to Brattleboro where this was a dinner:
