Ever hear of Elon Musk?
You know, that guy who majored in Electricity and developed the Telsa electric car (there’s a possible chance that Telsa was instead a competitor of Thomas Edison, but why bring up that bit of historical fact)?
Anywhos! Recently, Elon Musk joined the Space Race (as has Richie Branson) and developed SpaceX (you can read all about that over at singularityhub.com/2019/05/24/the-next-space-race-bezos-vs-musk/ ).
Thing is, getting all of that great info out to the masses is an art form! And that particular art is something at which Elon Musk at times excels, and at other times is so gosh darn awful, his stock drops bigtime.
Take his Twitter twitterizing, for example.
The man loves Twitter, and one company decided to analyze his tweets over at www.business2community.com/sales-management/we-analyzed-elon-musks-twitter-heres-what-we-learned-about-sales-psychology-02229161 !
Things uncovered included:
Sometimes humor does NOT come across: Elon’s bankruptcy April Fools joke caused the stock to lose 5% value (wheeee!).
FOMO (fear of missing out) can result in great sales (Try tweeting “Price is increasing in August!) and see how many more Teslas you sell
and other good takeaway thingees.
Twitter apparently is quite the social media platform to be on! Heck, such a thing could make for an excellent 1 page tutorial as well:

Step 2.) Ensure your Twitter profile is maximized to the, well, max
Step 3.) Dive into Twitter profit marketing tutorials to capitalize on the platform

It’s Monday!
Actually, it’s still Sunday at around 5:30pm and let me tell you….
Didja notice there wasn’t a morning newsletter on Sunday?
There’s a supremely fascinating reason why!!
I woke up at 5am or so… ready to get everything done so I could have breakfast with a great friend of mine…
Only to discover my site was hacked with a capital HHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!
ARGH!
This time it was an evolution of the last hack that happened a few months ago.
But here’s the thing, see….
It really… pissed me off BIGTIME.
I mean there I was, finally getting ready to see my friend, and I woke up to THAT.
ARGHH!!!!
So this time…
I decided to fix things *myself*.
Which in hindsight is hysterical because I do NOT know php well at all (I can spell it and that’s about it) and every single thing I could come up with…
It just didn’t pan out.
I searched for the malware site name in my theme code (perhaps it got injected there!)
Nope.
I decided to brave phpmyadmin (which is a graphical interface to the zillions of data thingees that make up a wordpress site) and looked for that string in all my 35K posts.
Zero.
Zip.
Nada.
So I decided to ask myself, what would Sherlock Holmes do (I was watching bunches of that the day before).
And by stringing together logic (as opposed to common sense)…. I found the error had occurred in a very very very VERY weird place which would be obvious if you were a WP expert….
Which I most definitely am NOT.
So yep – I was/am feeling mighty buff indeed! And I wrote:
“…=-=-= Take ownership of your future AND your profits =-=-=
Have you ever been told that only professional copywriters should write copy?
Or that only professional WP folk should try to fix WP sites?
Or that only professional (fill in the blank) should try to (fill in the blank)?
I personally think professionals are great, especially when they ARE professionals!
But lots of times, folks just posture because others *want* to believe in their abilities.
(fun fact – it’s one reason why its SO easy to become known as an authority in virtually any niche within 24 hours as well!).
Which brings me to my delightful Sunday morning story.
Over the past few months, some of my sites have been hit by random icknesses… and previously I bought into the, *only* have professional security folk address it while clutching BOTH pearls and various coffeecups at the same time!
Well, this Sunday morning a NEW issue sprung up. It was a ‘way more evolved hack than any of the prior joys.
To put it mildly, it pissed me off something *huge* (especially as this past week has been filled with more teenage angst and drama than Teletubbies reruns on a rainy day).
So instead of “leaving it to the professionals”, I decided to hack my way into one of my WP databases (that had over 41K entries).
Researched Google (no dice). Went thru
WordPress.org security (lost the cards too!). Performed a delicate AGS operation (awk grep sed) and <whomp> – no dice, no cards, no means for gambling at all!So I decided to take advantage of my yesterday’s bingeing of… Sherlock Holmes.
How would Sherlock handle it?
He’d be like Data from Star Trek, of course, and respond:
“How often have I said to you that when you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth?”
And I solved the issue that the professionals in the past… was not able to fix.
Your takeaway?
Take the *time* to teach yourself (at the very least!) basic ways of debugging either WordPress or HTML or what have you, or creating images of mooses discovering hidden coffeecups or ….
… or anything upon which your business depends.
You can uncover virtually any tutorial about anything online via this search:

beginners copywriting tutorials
etc.etc.etc.
In closing…
Do NOT give your power (or your future earnings) over to people who can hold it hostage.
Give yourself permission to teach yourself … instead.

It’s very depressing, it is.
